Pregnant women
Every pregnant woman should have her eyesight tested.
After surgical operations (e.g. laser correction, phakic lens implant), we remind our female patients of this test at the eligibility stage. Women with sight defects, especially near-sightedness, must pay particular attention to the state of their retina. This is why the standard eyesight test for pregnant women uses a three-mirror. First we dilate the pupil with the aid of drops, then the ophthalmologist applies a special lens which allows the retina to be viewed precisely.
If the retina is weakened, we suggest strengthening it using a laser.
“This procedure is entirely safe for both the mother and the baby,” says Dr Mariusz Rowiński. “It lasts a few minutes and doesn’t require any special preparation.” It provides an opportunity for a natural birth which is safe for the woman’s eyes. Eye tests for pregnant women are best done around the 28th to 30th week of the pregnancy, when the stomach is still small and it is easier to simply sit down at the autorefractometer or slit lamp for the operation.
